Egor Sidorov (pictured) scored at 2-30 of overtime Saturday afternoon, giving the Saskatoon Blades their first road win since December 17, out-lasting the Hitmen 3-2 at the Tsuu’tina Seven Chiefs Sports Complex in southwest Calgary.
Sophomore Hitmen goaltender Ethan Buenaventura was dazzling in stopping 42 of 44 shots before the 45th off the stick of Sidorov eluded him for the Bridge City Bunch’s 29th victory of the season, ending an 0-5-2 run away from SaskTel Centre. Buenaventura made six saves in overtime, including a sprawling 10-bell stop off Brandon Lisowsky. Despite surrendering the opening goal, it looked like the Blue and Gold would win in regulation time on second period goals by Lisowsky and Jake Chiasson’s first as a Blade. However, Calgary forced O-T when defendeman Carter Yakemchuk snuck a change-up, one-timer past Austin Elliott with 1:08 left in the third period. Yakemchuk scored both goals for the 23-17-5 Hitmen, who were out-shot 45-26. Now 29-11-4 for the season, Saskatoon heads to Manitoba for games Tuesday in Brandon and Wednesday at Winnipeg.
