Just over $15,600 was misappropriated by a Saskatchewan Health Authority employee based in Meadow Lake. A report on losses of public money within Saskatchewan health organizations says the employee took funds from several long-term care residents’ trust accounts over a two-and-a-half-year period. There was an investigation and the employee was fired. It was reported to the RCMP and charges were laid. The former employee entered a guilty plea and paid restitution. The SHA has increased internal controls concerning purchases made on behalf of residents.
The third quarter report on any losses for Ministries and Treasury Board Crowns, tabled today (Mon), includes two incidents with the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. In June of last year the SHC reported an employee with the La Ronge Regional Housing Authority took $1,800 from the cash deposits. The employee was fired, and the matter was reported to police.
Separately, from August of 2021 to April of 2022, a contract manager with the Edam Housing Authority was fired after a government issued purchase card was used for non-government purchases, to the tune of just over $3,200. The manager repaid the money and the matter was reported to the police.
