SaskBuilds and Procurement is entering into the Design Early Works Phase for the expansion and renovation of the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital. A news release from the province says this phase of the project led by PCL Construction Management includes designs for a new acute care tower, renovations to the hospital, and replacing the existing adult mental health space.
When it’s done, the hospital will go from having 173 beds to 242, an increase of 40 per cent, and with space to expand as needed. It will include a larger emergency department and enhanced medical imagine services, including an MRI. This phase also involves early construction and site preparation. Prince Albert Grand Council has partnered with the province and the Saskatchewan Health Authority on this project and will be providing feedback on the design.
During this phase, if the government accepts a PCL bid, PCL will be awarded the construction and renovation work. If not, the government will own the completed design and may tender the construction through another contractor.
