Three Down Nation sources say the Saskatchewan Roughriders have tendered a strong multi-year contract offer to pending free agent quarterback Trevor Harris.
Harris remains under contract with Montreal until free agency opens next Tuesday, but he’s able to field offers from other teams as part of the C-F-L’s negotiating window which opened this past Sunday. Also, according to Three Down Nation sources, the Green and White have an interest in C-F-L all-star receiver Eugene Lewis who has played alongside Harris for the last two seasons. While the 36-year-old veteran quarterback may not be able to put pen to paper yet, the Riders are hoping he reaches a decision quickly in order to help recruit other free agents. Harris completed 71.6 per cent of his passes for 4,157 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 15 starts this past season. He produced an 8-7 win-loss record while leading Montreal to the Alouettes’ first post-season victory since 2014. In addition, a C-F-L source told T-S-N said that Saskatchewan has agreed to a one-year deal with Montreal receiver Jake Wieneke today. Wieneke was slated to become a free agent next Tuesday, but pending free agents have been able to speak with teams since Sunday as per the league’s negotiating window. The source spoke on the condition of anonymity as deals reached during the window won’t be formally announced until the start of free agency.
