The City of Regina has been fined $100,000 after pleading guilty to a violation of the province’s Health and Safety Act. A news release from the City states that a worker suffered significant injuries. Employees were allowed to work inside a shipping container to unload heavy bus shelter glass and the space was too small to do the work safely. There wasn’t room for the worker to move out of the way and the glass fell on him.
New policies and procedures have been implemented to eliminate health and safety risks in incidents like this and training requirements for those uncrating glass have been revised. The City of Regina extends a public apology to the person injured on the job.
