The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed two players Friday, the latest being Regina product and wide receiver Mitchell Picton.
Coming off a career season in 2022, Picton signed a two-year contract extension with the Green and White. He played at least one game at each of the five receiver positions in the Rider offence. He set personal highs for games played with 11, 220 receiving yards and two touchdown catches. He had 18 receptions in total.
In addition, the Roughriders inked offensive lineman Eric Lofton Friday. The 29-year-old Lofton appeared in one game last season with Winnipeg, starting at right tackle in Week 19, the final week of the regular campaign. The Green and White will be the Temple University grad’s fourth C-F-L team, having previously suited up for Ottawa and Edmonton. For his career, Lofton has appeared in seven C-F-L games. REGINA’S OWN MITCHELL PICTON BACK FOR TWO MORE YEARS
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed National wide receiver Mitchell Picton to a two-year contract extension.
Picton (6’2-200) is coming off a career year in Green and White where he recorded 18 receptions and set career-highs in games played (11), receiving yards (220), touchdown receptions (2), and average yards per catch (12.2) in 2022. He showed off his versatility, playing at least one game in each of the five receiver positions.
The Regina native was selected by the Roughriders in the 5th round (37th overall) of the 2017 CFL Draft, working his way up to the active roster and making his CFL debut on July 27, 2019. In 2021, Picton played in ten regular-season games and recorded 25 receptions for 218 yards and a 9.6 yards per catch average. He scored his first career touchdown in Week 2 against Hamilton.
Picton played in 38 collegiate games over five seasons at the University of Regina (2013-17). While with the Rams, he tallied 170 receptions for 2,447 yards and 24 touchdowns. In 2016, he led all Canada West receivers with 58 catches, 834 yards and 11 touchdowns and was named a 2016 U Sports First Team All-Canadian and Canada West All-Star.

RIDERS SIGN OFFENSIVE LINEMAN ERIC LOFTON
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American offensive lineman Eric Lofton.
Lofton (6’4-293) spent the 2022 season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, making one start at right tackle in Week 19. Previously, the 29-year-old spent two seasons (2019-20) with the Edmonton Elks, suiting up for two games. He started his CFL career with the Ottawa Redblacks, dressing in four games during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
The New Jersey native played five collegiate seasons (2011-2015) at Temple University. He appeared in 37 games and showed off his versatility, making starts at right tackle, right guard and left guard. In his senior season, the former Owl was part of a line that only allowed 21 sacks in 12 games, earning him First-Team All-AAC Honours.
