Just call them “the Bounce Back Blades!” Saskatoon’s W-H-L team improved their record to 13-4-2 in the back half of games on back-to-back days in the 2022-23 season and downed the Raiders 3-1 Saturday in Prince Albert.
The result followed Friday’s 6-5 overtime loss at SaskTel Centre to P-A, who are desperately trying to track down a post-season berth. The Bridge City Bunch responded to news shortly before the opening face-off that they had officially qualified for the Eastern Conference playoffs when Lethbridge edged the Hitmen 4-3 in Calgary by scoring three unanswered goals in the first period. Jayden Wiens and Jake Chiasson notched power play markers and Brandon Lisowsky (pictured) scored with the teams skating four aside. Lisowsky’s 29th goal of the season was his seventh against the Raiders head-to-head. Add in an assist on Wiens’ man advantage tally and the 18-year-old Toronto Maple Leafs’ draft pick has 13 points in eight games against Prince Albert. The 24-29-3 Raiders got their only goal in the third period from 16-year-old rookie phenom Ryder Ritchie and pushed for a repeat of Friday’s rally to victory, but Blades’ goaltender Ethan Chadwick and his team-mates slammed the door on that thought. Saskatoon’s win was their 38th of the season, equaling last season’s total triumphs. With 81 points in the standings, the Bridge City Bunch have one point more than the 2021-22 edition of the Blue and Gold. The 38-13-5 Blades host Red Deer Wednesday at SaskTel Centre.
