Provinces and territories are calling on the federal government to increase funding to help in the delivery of affordable housing programs. Chair of the Provincial-Territorial Forum on Housing, Gene Makowsky, who is also the Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, says they are asking for increased and more flexible funding, and collaboration to come up with housing solutions that meet the unique needs and priorities of each jurisdiction.

Makowsky notes that the Parliamentary Budget Officer estimates the federal government will spend $45.9 billion over ten years on housing through 2027-28, while provincial and territorial governments have invested just over $20 billion in the past four years. This includes building new homes, improving existing affordable housing, providing services and supports to keep people in their homes and addressing homelessness.
