Getting everyone who wants to do business in the same room is what the second annual Indigenous Business Gathering is about.  Matt Smith, CEO of the Saskatchewan Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation, says they heard from many attendees last year that they were able to make positive connections, and the hope is that they led to new relationships. He also points out that last year’s event was the first, selling out with more than 300 attendees, and this year, there are about 600 people from across the province.

There are 80 tradeshow booths will representatives from all of Saskatchewan’s largest Indigenous economic development groups and businesses, as well as local and multi-national companies, including Enbridge and BHP. Minister of Trade and Export Development, Jeremy Harrison, says “The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to economic reconciliation, and this high-profile event is a great opportunity to bring together Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses, Crown Corporations and municipalities in the interest of advancing Indigenous participation in our economy.”

The event showcases what Indigenous businesses have to offer and it creates a networking space for all of the stakeholders.  A news release from the provincial government says the event brings everyone together under one roof who are looking to develop supply chain, procurement and partnership opportunities.
