Big River RCMP are looking for a man in connection to an investigation into someone approaching a home and threatening people inside with a knife and a firearm. No injuries were reported to police, who were alerted around 1 in the morning on Tuesday about the altercation at Big River First Nation.

The man and three or four unknown passengers took off in a black Chevrolet Equinox, license plate 200 LKH, which RCMP say had been reported stolen on February 25th from Big River. The vehicle was found on Highway 793 and a traffic stop was attempted unsuccessfully, and instead police report the SUV sped off toward the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation/Spiritwood area. Nearby detachments were told to be on the lookout, but the SUV hasn’t been found.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 27-year-old Brandon Whitefish from Big River First Nation. His nine charges include pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, being unlawfully in a dwelling and uttering threats. Whitefish has a tattoo of the letter B on the side of his face. Anyone who sees him or the vehicle is asked not to approach, and instead report it to the police.
