About six weeks and 20 games worth of bad breaks and indifferent play came together in one lopsided loss as the Saskatoon Blades were wallopped 8-1 by the visiting Prince Albert Raiders on Sunday at SaskTel Centre.
Seven different P-A players scored as the Raiders notched the final seven goals of the game to end a four-game losing streak and the Bridge City Bunch’s seven-game winning streak. The Blue and Gold had gone 11-0-1 since their last regulation time loss and were 16-2-1 in their previous 19 games. Keaton Sorenson tallied twice with singles from Evan Herman, Carter Anderson, Hayden Pakkala, Justice Christensen, Harrison Lodewyk and Sloan Stanick – the latter scoring in his 200th career W-H-L game. Brandon Lisowsky had the lone tally for the 44-14-5 Blades in front of 4,875 fans. Combined with Winnipeg’s 4-1 win over Brandon, the ICE clinched a first place finish in both the East Division and Eastern Conference. That result, as well as Moose Jaw’s 7-3 victory over Swift Current, left the 26-33-3 Raiders five points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Conference – behind Swift Current, Brandon and Calgary. Saskatoon returns to action Wednesday in Swift Current.
