The public inquest into the death of Cain Wapass will be held during the week of April 17th at the Coronet Hotel in Prince Albert.
The 28-year old was found unresponsive in a cell at the Ahtakakoop First Nation RCMP Detachment on August 26th, 2020. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and Cain was pronounced dead on the scene.
An inquest is required whenever a person dies while an inmate at a jail or correctional facility and if the death was not due entirely to natural causes.
The inquest will examine the case and a coroner’s jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.
