For the fifth time in franchise history, the Saskatoon Blades are a 100-point team during a regular-season. They accomplished the feat in 2022-23 with a 6-3 triumph over the Warriors in Moose Jaw on Saturday.
The Bridge City Bunch finished the campaign with a 48-15-5 record for 101 points…the .743 points percentage being the third-best in the 59-year history of the franchise. The Blue and Gold jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, only to have the home-standing Warriors tie things up by the mid-point of the second frame. However, Justin Lies and Rowan Calvert (pictured) scored 85 seconds apart before the second period ended with Moose Jaw product Calvert’s tally turning into the game winner. Trevor Wong added a pair of insurance goals in the third period while Brandon Lisowsky and Jayden Wiens staked Saskatoon to their initial advantage in the first. The win was the ninth straight on the road for the Bridge City Bunch, who will be the third seed for the first round of the W-H-L’s Eastern Conference playoffs, even though they have the second-best record in the group. The Blue and Gold will face the sixth seeded Regina Pats in Round 1 with Game 1 on Friday, March 31, at SaskTel Centre.
