The Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan Unit pulled over a driver last night who was driving a vehicle that had been uninsured since December 2022. Police say the driver claimed to have a driver’s license from another country but didn’t have it with him.
The officer issued two tickets and reminds motorists that if you are driving in a jurisdiction that is not where your driver’s license is issued, the onus is on you to be able to produce that license upon request at roadside if stopped by police.
The police point out that they can check with SGI in minutes with the right information but cannot easily check a foreign license so if a driver can’t provide an actual physical foreign license, that driver will be treated as if they don’t have a license and charged accordingly. In addition, the driver is not allowed to continue driving.
