Saskatoon Police were dispatched Monday around 3:30 p.m. to the 400 block of Fairmont Drive after receiving a report of a man smashing the glass doors of a building with an ice pick.

A spokesperson with the Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) confirmed that the building in question is the Emergency Wellness Centre (EWC). The caller also reported that the man tried to assault a staff member with the weapon but fled before anyone was injured.

The STC spokesperson didn’t believe anyone was injured in the incident and added that damage to the Centre is being assessed with no estimate as of now. When police arrived they located a suspect walking down the middle of the street about a block away.

Police say he was arrested without incident and believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant. A 32 year old man is charged with Mischief and Assault. He was also arrested on outstanding warrants.
