The leaders of both the NDP and Conservative parties shared their views on the newly unveiled federal budget today at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh says he is proud that his party was able to force the Liberal government to deliver in certain areas, but there is still room for improvement. He says there would not have been dental care, a continuation on the doubling of the GST tax credit, or clear ties between good jobs and investments in companies that are fighting the climate crisis if it weren’t for the New Democrats. However, Singh says he supports the budget and its ability to put money back in the pockets of Canadians.
On the other hand, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre says the federal budget only pours fuel on the inflationary fire going on in the country, and that nothing in the budget will assist Canadians in affording to live. He says there were three things that the Conservative party asked for. These were the elimination of inflationary deficits and carbon taxes, lower taxes that reward hard work, and the cost lowering of building permits to create affordable homes. Poilievre added that the budget will make it more expensive for Canadians to eat, heat, and house themselves. In spite of all that, Poilievre says the government’s decision to ‘plagiarize’ his proposal to give First Nations people more control over their money, land, and decision making is positive.
