An eight-year-old boy from the Red Earth Cree Nation is dead after being struck by a school bus.

It happened during the noon hour on Wednesday on the First Nation which is about 83 kilometres northeast of Nipawin. The boy exited the school bus and was walking in the same direction when he was hit by the bus.

Paramedics were called—but the boy was declared dead on the scene. Carrot River RCMP are investigating, and no charges have been laid.
