Saskatchewan’s New Democrats says the Sask. Party Government is misleading the people with its claim of record highs for the month of March in employment, based on Statistics Canada’s job figures.

The N-D-P says there were more than 4,300 job losses in the province last month from February while pointing out the government appears to be comparing March, 2023 job figures to past months of March while not acknowledging the 4,300 fewer jobs in Saskatchewan.

Statistics Canada reports the economy created 35-thousand jobs in Canada last month.  Nationally, the unemployment rate held steady at a near-record low of five per cent.

In terms of where there was a gain in employment it impacted transportation and warehousing, business, finance and real estate.

Statistics Canada says employment increased in Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island. There were fewer people employed in Saskatchewan with a drop of 0.7 per cent. There was little change in employment in the other provinces.
