Children from across Canada took part in the RCMP’s 2023 Name the Puppy contest, and the 13 winning names were announced Thursday.

Each year, the submitted names must begin with a certain letter, and this year’s letter was ‘S’, with over 7,000 possible name entries coming in.

One winner was selected from each province and territory, and the first 13 puppies born at the Police Dog Services Training Centre this year will each be given one of the names.

Each winner will receive a laminated 8×10-inch photo of the pup they named, a plush dog named Justice and an RCMP water bottle.

The contest will take place again next year, and all names in 2024 must start with the letter T.
