An Easter long weekend dangerous driving incident has resulted in the Saskatoon Police Service arresting a 26-year-old man.  The incident started at about 3 p.m. on April 7 when officers saw a vehicle with a confirmed stolen license plate at the corner of 20th Street West and Avenue P South.

Police say the driver fled an attempted police traffic stop at a high rate of speed. The police Air Support Unit was brought in and tracked the vehicle’s movements while a tire deflation device was successfully used at the intersection of 11th Street West and Avenue W South.

The driver tried to continue to operate the vehicle, but soon abandoned it in an alleyway near 21st Street West and Avenue O South. With the ASU’s help, officers soon arrested a suspect trying to flee on foot.  Police say that a search found him to be in possession of a concealed folding knife and the vehicle was also confirmed to be stolen.

Besides being charged with possession of stolen property over five thousand dollars, possession of stolen property, evade police, dangerous driving, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon, the 26-year-old man was also found to be wanted Canada-wide on a breach of statutory release.
