A 34-year-old man has been arrested following a robbery and a string of attempted robberies last Thursday in Saskatoon.

Around 4 p.m. on April 6, officers from the Saskatoon Police Service responded to a robbery in progress in the 100 block of 110th Street West. A male victim said a man armed with a knife had stolen his vehicle and fled. While officers were en route to that scene, there were several reports of erratic driving in the 1600 block of College Drive, followed by more reports of a vehicle, matching the description of the stolen vehicle, that had collided with multiple parked cars near the intersection of 20th Street East and 2nd Avenue South.

The suspect fled from the vehicle after the collision. Around 4:15 p.m., police believe the suspect unsuccessfully tried to rob a female victim of her vehicle in a parking lot in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South. He continued into the parking lot in the 300 block of Idylwyld Drive and was unsuccessful again in attempting to rob a female victim of her vehicle. The suspect then threatened a nearby male victim before fleeing.

In the process of leaving the area, the suspect reportedly discarded a large knife into a storm drain near the intersection of 20th Street and Idylwyld Drive South. Not long after that, a man was arrested without further incident by police, who also recovered the knife. There were no injuries reported and the man faces charges of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery, assault with a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, dangerous driving plus possession of a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine, and failure to stop after an accident.
