One person remains in La Ronge R-C-M-P custody and another was released after three masked men invaded a residence in La Ronge on Wednesday morning, an incident that turned into a gunfight with a male occupant of the home.
La Ronge R-C-M-P are working to locate the male occupant of the home, who fled the scene after the home invasion and are asking the public for any information they may have to bring it forward to them. Two separate reports of a home invasion came into the La Ronge R-C-M-P at about 8 a.m. on April 12, along with a report of a possible discharge of firearms. The three masked home invaders and the male occupant of the residence were known to each other. The three masked men forcibly gained entry to the home, one of whom was armed. When they found the male occupant, gunfire was exchanged. One of the masked males was injured in the gunfire exchange, with the three fleeing the area in a white Nissan Rogue. La Ronge R-C-M-P discovered that vehicle at a hospital in the community and seized a loaded shotgun from within. There were no occupants in the vehicle. Two of the three masked men were subsequently arrested – 38-year-old Cody McKenzie and 23-year-old Tyrell Dumais, both of the La Ronge district. Both face numerous charges with Dumais being released on an undertaking while McKenzie was being held on an additional charge of possession of a weapon while prohibited. He’ll appear in court in La Ronge Friday.
