The leader of the Official Opposition began Question Period today by stating that Scott Moe has the worst jobs record in the country over his time as Premier. Carla Beck says Saskatchewan people need more jobs and bigger paychecks, not the positivity spin in the government’s announcements.

The Minister of Trade and Export Development, Jeremy Harrison, mentioned that that Beck had previously called it toxic positivity, but he says the government won’t apologize for being positive. He touted that the website saskjobs.ca had 19,000 jobs available this morning, which means employers are looking for workers. He adds that the economy has created 9,500 jobs over the last year, exports are up 32 per cent in the same time period and wholesale trade is up 30 per cent.

Beck suggested to help Saskatchewan people, the government could scrap the PST on construction labour, build out renewable power, energy efficiency retrofits for homes and businesses and make more investments in education and healthcare.

Premier Scott Moe, who arrived late because he was in Saskatoon earlier in the day to speak to SUMA delegates, responded that the recent budget included 6.7 per cent increases for both health care and education. He added that 10,000 jobs have been created in Saskatchewan in the past year and 20,000 people have moved here in the past four-and-a-half months.

Beck said, “How dare he talk about education when there are school boards across this province right now looking to make more cuts because of under funding from that government.”
