Seven Liberal MPs from Quebec, Ontario and Nova Scotia got the chance to visit Saskatchewan last week to connect with business leaders, the agriculture and mining industries, local and provincial leaders and to tour Cameco’s uranium mine at McArthur River.

The lead organizer for the group, MP Kody Blois from Nova Scotia, says the idea for the trip began when he met the CEO of Cameco in Ottawa, which led to Tim Gitzel inviting MPs to come to Saskatchewan and witness what is happening here.

Blois states that Saskatchewan not having representation in the Liberal government is a challenge, and they miss having someone around like Ralph Goodale around, who was a strong voice for Saskatchewan in Ottawa. He hopes this trip will indicate that Liberal MPs care about Saskatchewan and its future in helping to produce food for the world and in the energy industry, including nuclear energy and mining the critical minerals needed for batteries.

Blois believes the two main themes from this trip were Saskatchewan’s ability to feed the world and to fuel the world, through nuclear energy and the critical minerals needed for batteries.
