The snowfall watch for southeast Saskatchewan has been upgraded by Environment Canada to a snowfall warning. Ten to 20 centimetres of snow and periods of blowing snow are expected in the southeast and into southwestern Manitoba. For the Moosomin region as much as 40 centimetres of snow is possible. Environment Canada says it will be heaviest tomorrow (Wed) morning, but accumulating snowfall will persist into Thursday for many locations. As well, winds will gust up to 50 km/h, so there will be blowing snow. The rest of southern and central Saskatchewan aren’t a part of the warning but are still getting snow and rain.
A news release from the Saskatchewan RCMP says they are hoping this is the last time the message is needed this spring about taking extra care on the roads because of snow. Heavy snow and high winds are likely to create dangerous road conditions in some locations, particularly in the southern half of the province. The RCMP advises to check the weather forecast and road conditions for both your departure and arrival points and if conditions will be poor, consider delaying your non-essential travel. If you decided to travel, make sure your tank is full and you have extra warm clothes, snacks, water, a phone charger and a snow shovel. The RCMP also suggests considering traction mats, a tow rope or chain, and booster cables for your vehicle.
