BHP signed $260 million in new contracts with Indigenous suppliers last month, and construction of the Jansen potash project southeast of Saskatoon is on track.
That’s according to the international mining company’s latest Operational Review. The report says the project is 20 per cent complete.

Work began on blasting and excavation at the bottom of the shafts last month, and for the remainder of the financial year, BHP will continue to focus on civil and mechanical construction on the surface and underground, as well as procuring equipment and port construction.

So far, capital expenditure for the mine sits at just over $5.7 billion and the initial production target date is late 2026. The feasibility study for Jansen Stage 2 continues and is expected to be done during the 2024 financial year.
