Potholes were cited as the biggest problem in nine of the 10 worst roads in Saskatchewan, according to the C-A-A 2023 list.
The lone exception in the survey was Highway 5 at Buchanan where poor road maintenance was the big issue. That landed the area in fifth place, a spot it maintained on the list from the 2022 C-A-A Worst Roads campaign. Taking the dubious honour of thee worst road in the province was Highway 44 at Eston with Highway 30 at Eston right behind in second spot. Potholes were identified as the major problem with those two intersecting roads in the West-Central Saskatchewan town. One other road making a return to the list in 2023 is Highway 9 at Hudson Bay with potholes being the culprit leading the road to be back on the list. It was third worst in both 2021 and 2022 and fifth worst in 2018. A total of 292 roads were nominated and voted on during this year’s C-A-A Worst Roads campaign.
