A Saskatoon-based organ transplant surgeon is this year’s winner of the Logan Boulet Humanitarian Award.

Dr. Michael Moser has devoted his career to transplant and oncology patients. He is a tenured professor and an academic research scientist at the University of Saskatchewan. He also plays a major role in the outreach and public awareness program to attract new organ donors. A second group award was presented to the Saskatoon Transplant Team.

The Logan Boulet Humanitarian Award is named in honor of one of the members of the Humboldt Bronco hockey team involved in a tragic bus collision five years ago. Logan had signed his organ donor card and as a result saved six people on the transplant list. The publicity surrounding those organs donations led to 95,000 Canadians signing a donor card.

The Logan Boulet Humanitarian Award was established by the Angel’s Legacy Project. It was started by Prince Albert resident Terry Switenky following the death of his wife Dawne who was awaiting an organ transplant.
