Saskatchewan and Japan’s Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation (JOIN), a government agency, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to support investment. Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison says the more investments made in Saskatchewan, the more jobs and economic growth we can look forward to. He gives helium as an example for possible investment, saying, “Helium is an area where Japan has a very significant interest in securing long-term, stable, reliable helium supplies.” Helium is an emerging industry in Saskatchewan.
Japan is one of the province’s largest export markets. Harrison notes that last year, over $1.2 billion in good was exported to the country, and the majority of that was related to agri-food products. In 2021, the provincial government established an office in Japan. (CKRM)
