Students, teachers, political leaders, and parents converged at the Legistlature yesterday (Sat) to speak on what the STF considers the underfunding of the public education sector.
Saskatchewan Teachers Federation President Samantha Becotte says although this is the most money that has ever been allocated to education in the provincial budget, education is not immune to feeling the effects of inflation, and the 2 per cent enrollment increase in classrooms province-wide is taking a toll on the funding that the sector was given. Becotte also says the STF has recorded a 40 per cent increase in children with intense needs who require additional support, and the lack of funding has prompted cuts to programs and professional supports which would have greatly aided those children in their education.
