The Silver Spoon Dinner held last night included the unveiling of the 2023 Sterling Award Winner.  The Sterling Award is presented to a woman in Saskatoon and area to recognize her ongoing voluntary contribution and service and its impact on the quality of life in the community.  Dr. Fatima Coovadia was born in South Africa and immigrated to Canada as a teenager.

In a news release organizers of the Silver Spoon Dinner said, “Fatima is an ardent advocate of human rights and works diligently within the community to build social cohesion. She is passionate about education and provides learning opportunities for individuals and organizations, exploring themes around racism, identity and social cohesion.”

In 2018, Fatima was appointed as a Commissioner with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission. She holds a Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) degree. She then went on to complete a Master of Health Administration (MHA) from the University of Regina. A mother of three, Fatima is the consultant owner of Coovadia Consulting. In 2022, she completed her Corporate Director training and has the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Since 2008, Dr Coovadia has served in various capacities on school parent and community councils, on the Lakeridge Co-operative Preschool Board, the Maria Montessori Board of Directors, on the Faith Leaders Council at the University of Saskatchewan and is a former board member of the Remai Modern Art Gallery. Currently, Fatima is a Director on the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation board.
