SaskPower’s budget includes $1.15 billion for capital expenditures to allow the Crown Corporation to maintain its existing infrastructure while growing the system.
A news release from SaskPower says this is a $98 million increase over the last fiscal year.
About $517 million is budgeted for maintaining and upgrading existing transmission, distribution and generation equipment. The infrastructure work includes rural powerline rebuilds and wood pole replacements. About $505 million is for growth projects, including investments in new natural gas plants such as the Great Plains Power Station and the planned Aspen Power Station to be located near Lanigan.
Minister Responsible for SaskPower, Don Morgan, says the budget makes significant investments to transition to low-carbon energy sources, upgrade aging infrastructure and modernize systems.
