Camping season has begun and Sask Parks says that alcohol will be permitted in campsites during the May long weekend, the first time in 17 years.
A ban had been in effect since 2006. The ban prohibited campers from consuming alcoholic beverages in any Saskatchewan provincial park campgrounds during the May long weekend. Cannabis was also included in the ban. It wasn’t legalized at the time the ban was implemented and will also now be permitted.
This year Sask Parks has also announced a full schedule of events and programming including guided hikes and educational programming, alongside musical performances and cultural celebrations with self-guided Park Discovery Packs available to borrow daily in most parks starting this weekend. They include everything needed to complete a craft, explore the park or conduct a science experiment. Sask Parks reminds would-be campers that new Camp-Easy yurts have been added at Pike Lake, Good Spirit Lake and Greenwater Lake provincial parks.
