Abandoned explosives were reported to RCMP recently, which were found in a remote building in southeast Saskatchewan. The RCMP’s Explosives Disposal Unit collected them and safely disposed of them. Sgt. Topping from the EDU says, “It’s not that uncommon to locate abandoned explosives. They may have been originally intended for boulder busting or construction and some are quite old.” The team has responded to around ten similar calls for service so far this year involving explosives, ammunition and flares.
Topping says, “Explosives are incredibly dangerous and may be unstable. Do not handle them and call your local police. They will contact the experts who have the skills and training to dispose of them safely.”
