Sahbra Marcus is one of the youngest survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto.
She was born in an alcove of the sewer system two months after her twin brothers were murdered along with other children. After the war, Sahbra ended up in Montreal and became a dancer with her own studio. She tells her story as a holocaust survivor Sunday afternoon at the Congregation Agudas Israel Jewish Community Centre.
One of the organizers of the event, Dr. Simonne Horwitz notes that this could be the final chance to hear from a survivor at this annual event, because time marches on and there aren’t many still alive or able to travel to Saskatoon She says bearing witness to the survivor’s stories first-hand is a real gift.
Dr. Horwitz believes it is important to share these stories in an era where there is growing anti-Semitism and growing racism in all its forms. Sahbra Marcus will relay her experiences at the Holocaust Memorial at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon at Congregation Agudas Israel on McKinnon Avenue.
