At their Annual General Meeting at the end of last March, the Saskatchewan Liberal Party voted to change its name to better represent the party’s values and future plans.
The public were asked to submit entries, and over 300 submissions were made before the cut-off date on May 17th.
Sask Liberal Leader Jeff Walters says the name submission process allowed him to reengage with the public to hear what they want from the party. After all the repeated names were deleted, 15 potential titles now remain.
Walters was pleasantly surprised at the number of submissions they received and says that if citizens take the party seriously enough to submit a name, they may take it seriously enough to consider the party at the ballot box.
Walters says the 15 finalists will be passed along to the party members in a survey, as they are the lifeblood of the organization and should have final say in what the party will be called. The member survey will launch this week and members will have one week to vote. Walters says he expects the party to have its unofficial new name by mid to late June.
