Organizers of the Saskatchewan Marathon had several reasons to smile after the weekend event in Saskatoon’s Meewasin Valley.
There were a record-breaking 4,651 runners and walkers registered for the 45th running of the Saskatchewan Marathon which included runners from all over North America.
Participants could chose from five different race distances: Brainsport 42.1K, Eb’s Source for Adventure 21.1K GoodLife Fitness 10K, Craven SPORT services 5k,
Family Focus Eyecare 2.2K and MaraFun (2.2km).
The event started and finished in Diefenbaker Park and organizers say the weather was perfect for running that being it was cloudy, calm and cool.
Christine Bant from Victoria BC broke Donna Grisak’s 1990 women’s marathon course record 2:59:36 by more than 5 minutes at a time of 2:54:05. At 2:25:58, Kip Kangogo from Lethbridge Alberta was just short of David Mutai’s 2019 men’s course record of 2:22:09. Both athletes received a cash prize of $1500 for their wins, and Christine received a $1000 bonus for breaking the record.
The Saskatchewan Marathon is organized by the Saskatoon Road Runners Association (SRRA) and is a Boston Qualifier.
