An online tour of a chicken farm, an agriculture trivia competition and a delicious lunch consisting entirely of Saskatchewan food ingredients.
All of this is on the agenda Thursday for 1,800 elementary students in five cities around the province—including Mayfair and Caswell Community schools in Saskatoon—as well as schools in Regina, Yorkton and Lloydminster.
Meals from the Farm is a joint venture between Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan and Agriculture in the Classroom. Farm and Food Care Executive Director Clinton Monchuk says it is a day for students and teachers to think about how the foods we eat are produced by farmers.
Students will also receive lentil and beef jerky snacks, as well as recipes and seeds to plant in a small plot or garden.
CJWW Agriculture Director Neil Billinger talks to Clinton Monchuk about the day’s activities.
