At 11:09 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Saskatoon fire crews responded to a 911 call where the caller said a garbage truck was on fire. It was the ones used to pick up blue bin recycling.
The vehicle was fully involved in fire when firefighters arrived, and the blaze was brought under control at 11:24 a.m.
Damage is estimated at $235,000 and the vehicle is a total loss. The Fire Investigator says the fire originated in the hydraulic area behind the cab. Cause of the fire is accidental due to a mechanical failure.
No one was injured. The operator of the vehicle was able to safely evacuate the cab before the fire made its way to the driver’s compartment.
