A public inquest into the death of William Whitebear has been scheduled for this week at the Saskatoon Inn.
The 28-year-old was found unresponsive in his cell at the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre on November 2nd, 2020.
Lifesaving attempts were made but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
According to the Coroners Act, the Chief Coroner is to hold an inquest into the death of anyone who dies while an inmate at a jail or correctional facility, unless the coroner is satisfied it was entirely due to natural causes and not preventable.
A Coroner’s jury can also provide recommendations.
