Metis Nation-Saskatchewan and NexGen Energy have signed and Impact Benefit Agreement for the proposed Rook uranium mine in mill development project in Northwestern Saskatchewan.
The agreement includes all seven Metis Locals of that area together with MN-S and NexGen. The Rook I Project is on Metis Homeland on lands subject to the Northwest Saskatchewan Metis land claim. The IBA negotiations began in 2019.
A news release from the MN-S explains that the IBA provides Metis Nation support for the development of the uranium mine and mill, and solidifies commitments to collaborate in respect of environmental and social concerns and the sharing of benefits. They include training, employment, and business opportunities as well as a royalty payment.
