The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has partnered with Food Banks of Saskatchewan to raise funds to make sure children who rely on school nutrition programs during the school year won’t go hungry over the summer.
It’s called the ‘Food to Learn’ campaign.
A news release from the two organizations says about 40 per cent of those who access food bank services are under 18. The STF has donated $20,000 to get the campaign going and the goal is $44,000. That’s a significant number, because it represents the 44,000 people Food Banks of Saskatchewan serve each month.
Executive director of the Food Banks of Saskatchewan, Michael Kincade, says historically donations slow down significantly over the summer, but the need doesn’t.
