Lloydminster RCMP had to perform a tactical arrest near the noon hour Wednesday on a man who was in possession of a real firearm and, possibly, an imitation one.
Police received multiple calls from the public at about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday morning reporting a man was brandishing a gun near a public event near 49th Avenue and 46th Street in Lloydminster.
Because of the high-risk nature of the call and potential danger to the general public, the Lloydminster RCMP officers decided on the tactical arrest, eventually seizing a prohibited weapon from the suspect, as well as evidence that he had been in possession of an imitation firearm, believing he discarded it before police arrived on the scene. Charges are pending.
