The Saskatchewan RCMP has charged a 34-year-old concerning the death of Misha Pavelick.

Pavelick was fatally stabbed on May 21, 2006, when a fight broke out at a long weekend high school grad party near Regina Beach.

Sgt. Major Darryl Milo, the officer in charge of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s historical case unit, said after 17 years, the RCMP has been able to bring some sense of closure to Misha’s family in holding an individual responsible was at the core of the motivation behind each investigator assigned to the case.

The 34-year-old suspect was arrested without incident on Saturday, June 24 and charged with one count of Second Degree Murder.

Lorne Pavelick, Misha’s father, spoke on behalf of the family. He said 6,246 is the days between Misha’s death and Tuesday. Despite the time that has passed Pavelick says their family knows it’s the beginning of the end and not the end as yet. However, the arrest renews their hope for justice for Misha.

Because the individual charged, was a youth at the time of the offences, he cannot be named, and he will be appearing in Regina Provincial Youth Court on July 17.
