The Water Security Agency has set aside $1 million to support rural landowners, communities and local governments to complete channel clearing and drainage project maintenance. The funding will be part of a cost share rebate for landowners, rural and small urban municipalities, conservation and development area authorities and watershed associations.

A news release from the WSA says this is the first time, as a proactive flood mitigation measure, individual landowners and small urban municipalities with a population of under 5,000 are eligible for this funding. The WSA will provide a 50 per cent rebate for costs during the current fiscal year up to $100,000. A couple of examples of what the funding could be used for are removing silt, beaver dams and debris to lessen the possibilities of blockages which could cause flooding.
