Premier Scott Moe has announced that the three byelections to fill vacant seats in Regina Coronation Park, Regina Walsh Acres and Lumsden-Morse will be held on August 10th. Voting week runs from August 3rd to 10th with advance polls open from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday August 3rd through Sunday and then again on Tuesday. Then, Thursday, August 10th, the polls will be open from 9am to 8pm. Moe says he expects to see a strongly contested campaign by all parties and candidates.
All three ridings had Sask Party MLAs. The Lumsden-Morse by-election is needed because Lyle Stewart retired in March for health reasons. The Regina Walsh-Acres seat was held by MLA Derek Myers who passed away this spring. Mark Docherty announced he was stepping down as MLA for Regina Coronation Park in February.
Leader of the Saskatchewan NDP, Carla Beck, welcomes the announcement of the by-elections She says it’s a chance to send a clear message to the Sask Party government under Premier Scott Moe. She admits that winning a new seat is never as easy as holding onto one, but she is confident about the NDP’s prospects.
