The province’s monthly report on community respiratory illnesses says five people who tested positive for COVID-19 died in the latest reporting month, which is the four weeks leading up to July 15th. All five were 60 or over. There were no deaths reported from other respiratory illnesses.
In the last reporting week, 15 people in the hospital had COVID and five were in an ICU. There was no reported RSV in Saskatchewan during the reporting period. Flu has decreased gradually in the past month, dipping below the inter-seasonal 2 per cent test positivity threshold.
Hospital admissions for respiratory viruses have increased in the past month from 187 to 198, but the highest number aren’t from influenza, RSV or COVID, they are from ‘other’ viruses. The other category for viruses in the report includes: Parainfluenza 1-4, Adenovirus, Enterovirus, Human Metapneumovirus, Rhinovirus, and Seasonal Coronavirus.
