Prince Albert Police say they have multiple investigations underway similar to the Emergency/Grandparent scam.
They say the criminal will typically target seniors calling under the guise of a family member in distress and could identify themselves as police, justice officials or lawyers. They can also claim to be a loved one or grandchild in trouble and in need of money immediately.
They may also suggest to their victims that there is an order in place which doesn’t allow the victim to share the information with anyone.
Prince Albert Police say courts or police will never call you to send money. Never send cash, Crypto currency, any funds and certainly don’t purchase gift cards, to unverified addresses or bank accounts.
If you get a call from someone claiming to be a lawyer, police or family and it relates to an emergency situation then hang up immediately and contact police or the family member in question using known, reputable phone numbers and not numbers provided to you.
