As of Friday, Manitoba RCMP have begun an investigation into a potential burial at Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Roman Catholic Church at Pine Creek First Nation.

The potential criminal activity was first discovered in August of 2022, when ground anomalies were detected by a private contractor hired by the community. At a meeting regarding the discovery, it was shared that Elders and community members had additional knowledge and information in relation to the anomalies.
After a year of interviewing community residents, conducting surveys, and following up on leads, officers have not retrieved evidence related to any criminal activity at the site.

Moving forward, a community-led forensic dig in the basement of the church is taking place. If anything criminal is found during the dig, the RCMP has plans in place and investigators assigned to continue the investigation.
