With the hot weather, SaskPower is reminding everyone to save energy where they can. The Crown Corporation anticipates high peak toads today (Mon) and tomorrow and heat can affect the efficiency of some generation facilities, so high demand can put a strain on the grid. As well, conserving energy saves you money.
A release from SaskPower says cooling homes represents a significant portion of a customer’s power bill in the summer. Tips to save energy include making sure your home is only being cooled when needed, because for every degree that air conditioning is lowered for an eight-hour period, you can save up to two per cent on power costs. Close your blinds and curtains during the day to keep the heat out and make sure your windows and doors are closed. Delay doing things that produce heat and moisture, like your running your dishwasher or washer and dryer until the temperatures have cooled off.
